PROJECTS

Electrochemical Nose (Echem-nose) and Biosensors

Designing electrochemical sensors in various forms with a thin film of an electrolyte, we are studying the capture and detection of various chemicals and biomaterials through sniffing. Using novel approaches, fiber-shaped and planar electrochemical electrodes are fabricated in the lab to design electrochemical sensors.

Wearable Electronics

Addressing the need for a practical solution for applying electronic circuits directly on fabrics for the emerging technology of wearable electronics, we focused on a fabrication method for patterning copper-based circuit layouts on fabrics and soldering surface mount devices (SMDs) directly to the layout.

Perovskite-Based Piezoelectric and Photo-Electronic Devices

We grow perovskite crystals and study the piezo and photoelectric effects in perovskite materials.

Hybrid Solar Cell-Energy Storage Devices

Using a composite of photoactive material and a conducting polymer in an electrochemical device can give us the dual properties of solar energy harvesting and electrical charge storage. We have developed a few different structures of hybrid devices in a thin-film and thread-shaped structures.

Space biology (Growing plants in space)

Addressing the need for producing food for astronauts in their long-term space missions to the Moon and Mars, we are studying the effect of growing plants in cubesat-sized chambers.
